Lowell Amey Van Vechten is Chairman and CEO of Van Vechten & Company. Lowell has an extensive background in promotions, special events, editorial development, publishing and related fields. Born in Connecticut, she had her first taste of the PR world, when her parents agreed to allow her, at age three, to be the "cover girl" for Good Housekeeping Magazine. Little did her family realize, but one day their daughter would find her own way in the publishing world, enjoying close to 18 years as an editor and executive with Conde Nast Publishing and Mademoiselle Magazine.
Educated at Sacred Heart and Marymount in San Francisco and New York respectively, Lowell spent close to 10 years living in Venice, Italy, studying and becoming global in her perspectives and fluency in the Romance Languages. Her Italian, French and Spanish verbal skills continue to support her in her world travels and knowledge of other cultures, foreign trends and the global political scene. She is currently studying Portuguese.
Lowell opened her own consultancy in the 1980's, representing such prestigious publications as Vogue, Self, Sassy and Bride's Magazine. She often served as each publication's national spokesperson, while developing competitive promotional and retail events that extended her magazine clients' impact on the national scene. A columnist and writer, she enjoyed having her own monthly column, for many years, on the pages of Mademoiselle.
After a decade of consulting with Van Vechten & Company clients, helping to shape program development and content, reviewing editorial activities and supporting the agency's various growth initiatives, Lowell agreed to fold her business interests in with those of her husband Jay's and to chair the agency, eventually becoming its CEO and principal owner.
A mother, wife, daughter, sister, and community supporter, Lowell epitomizes today's busy career women balancing business requirements with her extended family's needs. Active with various local and national children's charities such as Kids in New Directions and SOS Children's Village , Lowell recently chaired the annual gala for the Boca Raton Historical Society, turning the event into a celebration of the 1940's.
In 1996 Lowell relocated with her family from the Upper East Side of Manhattan to her Mediterranean style home in Boca Raton, Florida, where she resides with her husband Jay, son Nicholas and two dogs, Bam-Boo and Pan-Dee, a pair of black and white Shih-tsus. "After living so many years of my life in Italy, I feel so much closer to my roots in this warm climate abundant with flowers and business opportunities," she says. "It is a great place to raise children, grow gardens, and make business thrive."
