House Beautiful Magazine

When the editors and publishing staff of House Beautiful Magazine, the venerable home furnishings publication, asked for our help, we said yes. Our mission: reach interior designers and convince them that they were as important to the magazine as its readers. What a great assignment. First, we helped launch the national search for the Best Small House in America. Then we created the National Show House Competition, and directed both the 90th and 100th national birthday celebrations for this Hearst Corporation publication, a VV&C client for over a dozen years. This experience put us in direct contact with the world’s best designers, including Mario Buata, Nina Campbell, Mark Hampton, Sister Parish and Ralph Lauren. Highlights included working with the Clinton’s designer and later the Bush’s design team to develop articles about renovations at the White House. We even got to throw a swell black tie party on Columbus Day in Italy. This fabulous event honored American designers participating in the renovation of the American Academy in Rome, the "Villa Aurelia.” House Beautiful, at age 90, became the design world’s hot new discovery. Editorial content soared and advertising sales boomed.
